Venerable Augustus Tolton

Father Tolton was a formerly enslaved person who later became the first known African American priest. His story is one of grace, mercy and loving triumph over suffering. When he is canonized, he will be the first African American saint.

The Tolton Ambassadors of Indiana are prayerfully committed to advancing the cause for sainthood for Venerable Augustus Tolton, 1854-1897. We Pray, Catechize, Evangelize and Support.

Father Tolton, pray for us.

“The Catholic Church deplores a double slavery - that of the mind and that of the body. She endeavors to free us of both.”
